A Personal Locator Beacon, or ‘PLB’, is a portable handheld device that can be used in an emergency situation to alert Search and Rescue services, who in turn can then determine your position. Once activated, the built in GPS receiver sends out your position encoded into the 406 MHz frequency, which is relayed via satellites to the appropriate SAR co-ordination centres. This gives the beacon worldwide coverage and a location accuracy of under 100m.

An additional built in 121.5 MHz homing beacon is standard with a PLB, meaning rescuers use this when they are in the right area to pinpoint your exact location. We offer a number of different models, from reputable manufacturers such as GME and ACR.
