An Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon, or EPIRB, is a device carried on (and registered to) your aircaft or helicopter, which can alert Search and Rescue services to your location, in the event you have to ditch in an emergency. These are often deployable (or can be carried on your person), as opposed to being solely fixed to an airframe.
