This leaflet is mainly aimed at private operators of aeroplanes but much of the advice will be equally relevant for helicopters. It includes details of how to improve the chances of survival after a ditching.

This document reports on the experimental work performed in support of the development of a technical standard for helicopter emergency breathing systems (EBS), and also contains the resulting technical standard. The work follows on from the review of EBS implementation and use reported in CAA Paper 2003/13, and is being presented to the EASA helicopter ditching Rule Making Task RMT.0120(27&29.008). The technical specification is offered for use by the industry where EBS is deployed on a voluntary basis, and will be promoted to EASA for use as the basis of a formal specification, i.e. a European Technical Standard Order (ETSO).

The CAA has announced a series of measures to increase the safety of offshore helicopter flights. This almost 300 page document, covers the changes that have taken place in the industry, as a result of a comprehensive review of offshore helicopter operations undertaken in conjunction with the Norwegian CAA and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and advised by a panel of independent experts.
